Bottle Drop

A message-in-a-bottle app - write a message, seal it in a bottle, drop it into the stream, and let a stranger somewhere find it and write back.

Bottle Drop is a message-in-a-bottle app built on Rising Tide Protocol. You write a message to whoever finds it, seal it in a bottle, and drop it into a flowing stream. Someone, somewhere, pulls it from the current, reads it, and can leave a short reply that travels on with the bottle for the next person who finds it.

It is designed as a mobile app first - a full-bleed scene with a drifting stream and a heads-up display, made to live on your phone (desktop works too, as a wider view). It deliberately feels like a small web game rather than a typical app: there is no feed, no nav bar, no accounts to manage. The blockchain is invisible: you never think about contracts, editions, or wallets while you are reading the water.

The idea

A message in a bottle has no address. You write it for a stranger you will never meet and trust the current to carry it. Bottle Drop keeps that feeling and adds one thing a real bottle never had: the finder can write back, and their reply rides along for whoever finds it next. Over time a single bottle gathers a small trail of replies from everyone it drifted past.

Three simple verbs:

write a message
to whoever finds it
drop it in the stream
seal it, let the current take it
find and leave a reply
pull a bottle, read it, write back

Reading the stream is always open - no sign-in needed to drift through and read what people have set loose. You only sign in the moment you drop a bottle in or leave a reply.

Built on the protocol

Bottle Drop is a worked example of something the protocol is designed for: composing a brand-new, distinctly branded product out of shared primitives, without inventing any new infrastructure.

A "bottle" is not a protocol concept at all. Underneath, it is an open letter with the feedback capability switched on - the same capability that lets a reader attach a few words when they keep an edition. Turn feedback on, leave the recipient open, and give the whole thing a playful nautical brand, and an open letter becomes a bottle drifting in a stream. The message you write is the open letter. Each reply a finder leaves is a numbered edition with the feedback attached. All of that is existing, shared protocol machinery - Bottle Drop just composes it and paints it.

This is the protocol's guiding line in practice: the protocol provides primitives, not products. Bottle Drop is the product. It proves a small team can stand up a novel experience - its own look, its own vocabulary, its own feel - on primitives that already carry ownership, permanence, and direct payment for free.

What you can do today

  • Read the stream - drift through bottles other people have dropped in, no sign-in required
  • Write a message and drop it in - seal it in a bottle for whoever finds it
  • Find a bottle - pull one from the current and read what someone left
  • Leave a reply - add a few words that travel on with the bottle for the next finder
  • Keep a logbook - see the bottles you have dropped and the replies you have left

Every bottle and every reply is permanent and on-chain. If Bottle Drop ever went away, the messages and their trails of replies would still exist - they live on a public network, not on the app's servers.
