Support a Cause
Direct a percentage of your earnings to an approved cause or organization - automatically, on every collect.
When you publish a page or event on Rising Tide, you can direct a percentage of the earnings to an approved cause or organization. The cause receives their share automatically on every collect - no manual transfers, no accounting, no follow-up.
Why this matters
Most "X% of proceeds go to charity" promises are hard to verify and easy to break. You publish, you promise, and then maybe at the end of the quarter you tally it up and cut a check - if anyone is watching. The cause has no visibility into what you actually earned, and your audience has no way to confirm the promise was kept.
On Rising Tide, the cause is one of the recipients in the contract. Every collect triggers the split in the same on-chain transaction that mints the edition - the cause is paid in the same breath the creator is paid. Anyone can verify it. The cause can verify it. You do not have to remember to send anything.
The shorthand:
- The cause is paid in the same transaction as you. No quarterly tally. No promise to keep.
- The split is verifiable by anyone. The cause, your audience, the protocol team. Every payment is on the public record.
- It scales with no effort. If your piece goes viral, the cause earns from every collect, automatically.
How it works
When you configure your piece before publishing, you choose how earnings are divided. Alongside your own share, any collaborators, and the visual template designer, you can designate a percentage to one or more of the approved causes registered with the protocol.
Every time someone collects your work, the cause receives their portion directly. It is encoded at the time you publish and cannot be changed after.
Approved causes
Causes are pre-approved organizations registered with the Rising Tide team. Approval involves verifying the organization's identity and address. Only approved and verified causes can receive allocations.
The current list of approved causes is visible in the creator tools when you configure your piece.
What creators give up
Nothing you did not choose. The percentage you direct to a cause comes out of the total - typically from your own share. You decide the split. If you allocate 5% to a cause, your share is 5% lower. The template royalty and any collaborator splits are unaffected unless you adjust them.
Nominating a cause
If there is an organization you want to support that is not yet in the approved list, reach out to the Rising Tide team. The approval process involves identity verification and confirming their address for distribution. Once approved, any creator on the protocol can direct earnings to them.
One cause or several
A single piece can support one cause or several - add as many approved causes as you like and set each one's percentage. There is no limit on how many of your pieces support a cause, or how many different causes you back across your body of work.
Where the money comes from
A cause is paid out of the same collect that pays everyone else, in the same currency, at the same moment. How Earning Works explains that flow from the creator side.
